The mission of Project Give Light, supported by The Luke Spallone Foundation, is to prevent youth suicide, promote mental health awareness, and create a message of hope for pre-teens, teens and young adults in our community.
PROJECT GIVE LIGHT is a not-for-profit organization created to help reduce and ultimately eliminate suicide in young adults. We envision a world without the devastating effects of suicide in the young adult population by empowering young adults to know and recognize at-risk young people. We want to equip young adults with the tools and resources to seek immediate help from reliable and effective local resources.
Project Give Light was created by Beth and Robert Spallone following the loss of their 12-year-old son, Luke who died from self-harm on January 10th, 2013. He was a straight-A student, involved in school leadership, sports, and always helped out in the community. Luke was not someone you would think was depressed or suicidal.
In honor of Luke and all those lost to suicide, they share their journey with the hope that others may learn and grow from their tragedy. Through outreach, programs, partnerships, and funding, they raise awareness and inspire youth, parents, and educators to take action and help forward their mission.
As a parent of a child who took their own life, our mission is to raise awareness of teen and young adult suicide. We want to bring attention to the growing epidemic of suicide in our community and provide compassionate support to suicide loss survivors during the aftermath of suicide. Each person mourns in their own way and we believe that no suicide loss survivor should go without support.
We live in the Edgebrook Neighborhood located in Cook County, Illinois. After Luke's passing, we held a balloon release every year on his birthday in January. In addition, a beautiful tree was planted in honor of our son at Edgebrook school near the baseball field. Every December we decorated his tree with lights and ornaments. We could not have prevailed without the love and support we received from our friends and neighbors within the Edgebrook community.
We share our story to spread awareness of the problem of youth suicide and promote and fund prevention education programs.
We advocate for cyber safety at home and at schools to ensure safe technology practices for youth.
Live like Luke we support kindness and anti-bullying campaigns and programs.
